HPS — Modified Starch Ether

An etherified cassava-starch powder designed to improve rheology, anti-sagging and workability of dry-mix mortars — used in synergy with HPMC.

CAS No. 9049-76-7 HS Code 3505.10 (CN export 3505100000) EINECS 618-565-2

The Smart Co-Binder for Mortar & Putty

HPS is made from natural cassava (tapioca) starch through etherification and spray-drying. The resulting white fine powder is cold-water soluble and plasticizer-free. It is widely combined with HPMC in cement, gypsum and lime-based systems to optimise rheology and reduce overall formulation cost.

Fast thickening & strong thixotropy — delivers obvious anti-sag and anti-slip at very low dosage, holds thick-layer applications without slump.
Smooth application — lubricates the knife, no stick-slip on multiple passes, better workability and finishing.
Synergy with HPMC — partial HPMC replacement that still improves crack resistance, water retention and open time.
Broad compatibility — works in cement, gypsum and lime-based systems alongside common construction additives.
Very low dosage, high efficiency — a true high-performance additive at a fraction of the dosage of cellulose ethers.

Note: HPS is not a replacement for HPMC. Its water retention is weaker than HPMC; it must be used together with HPMC to deliver the full performance expected of a dry-mix system.

Recommended Dosage

Standard dosage — 0.05% ~ 0.10% of total dry-mix weight, i.e. 0.5 ~ 1.0 kg per ton of dry powder.
Combined with HPMC — can reduce the HPMC dosage by approximately 0.1% while keeping or improving anti-crack, water retention and open time.
Lab trial recommended — always run a small-scale trial to fine-tune the dosage for your specific formula and aggregate.

Storage Conditions

Sealed & dry — store in a tightly closed, dry place to prevent moisture pick-up.
Temperature — ambient 10°C ~ 30°C, away from direct sunlight and rain.
Shelf life — 12 months from production date in unopened original packaging; avoid caking from humidity.
